Photo Editing Challange – Task 6

March 5, 2008 at 4:43 am (Class Task)

Before                                                                        After

This was fairly a simple task, I used the magnetic lasso to trace the eye and copy it. I then pasted it on the opposite side; I used the free transformation tool to rotate. Finally I made it look more natural using the cloning tool.

Before                                                                     After

This one was a little more challenging because making a face look natural is hard. First I copied exactly one hald of her face. I then pasted it on the torn part and flipped it. The face look too symmetrical so I erased parts need the forehead and cheek. To get the rest of the paper I copied a piece and pasted it. I then streched it to fit. I blured unnecessary line and used the cloning tool to fix up some colour variations.

Born Into Brothels – Task 5

February 10, 2008 at 12:30 am (Class Task)

1) How did you enjoy the film? What stood out for you?

I really enjoyed watching this film. It was such an eye openner for me. When I think of India I think of wholesomeness, good values and innocence. I always pictured the people of India very tradtional, this film showed me just the opposite.  The part where the two mothers were cussing infront of the child stood out. The pure vulgerness of the parents was such a shocker.

2) Did you learn anything new about photography, life, people? What?

I learned some new stuff. I learned that it doesn’t matter how good your camera is, you can take amazing pictures with the worst of cameras. Life isn’t fair; change doesn’t come about easily. People are ignorant and unless we strive for change we will be stuck. This movie thought me many lessons.

3) How do you think the world needs to change?
   How important is this?

There are so many problems in the world, I don’t know where to begin. I believe that change has to occur with children. We are the future and if we don’t learn differently we are bound to make mistakes from the past. Children need to be more educated and aware.

4) What are you willing to do TODAY to be a part of that change?

To be part of that change I am willing to take the steps to become educated and aware myself. I live a very good life in this bubble. I know very little about the rest of the world. I can’t really change the world if I am not sure what needs to be changed.

5) Do you know a good song/rap/poem with good lyrics about change in the world?
Post a link or lyrics to share it with us.

6) Pick a non-profit organization that is important to you.
Why is this important to you?
   Do they have a website?

A non-profit organizatiton that is important to me it oneXone. It’s a local organization that helps children in Canada and across the globe. It’s an organization my family suports, we love donating to them. It is important to me because it helps such a great cause. Their web site is https://www.onexonecampaign.com/

7) What ideas do you have for media arts projects that we could do individually or as a  class to help contribute to these organizations that are important to us?

Our class is producing some great work. We can apply our knowledge and design posters, shirts, buttons, etc and sell them. The money made would then be donated to organizations we find most important.

Understanding Resolution – Task 4

January 17, 2008 at 2:21 pm (Class Task)

1) Will a 300 dpi image or a 72 dpi image be clearer when printed out at the same size? How come?

The 300 dpi image would print much more clearer then the one at 72 dpi because because there are 228 more dots per inch.

2) What would a picture created at 1 dpi look like?

A picture at 1 dpi would look very square and jagged. The images look like stairs.

Combination of Lasso and Wand Tool

Feather Tool

1. What combination of tools did you use to isolate the fruit in “fruit_combo.jpg” and where in the image did you use which tool?

* To isolate the fruit bowl in the third picture I used the magic wand  at the top to get rid of all like colour spaces, I then traced the shape with the magnetic lasso and inversed it. I deleted the outer area.

2. Of the methods you used to isolate the fruit in the 3 pictures. Which method did you find most effective in this case?

* I personally found that using the magnetic took the best for this assignment. I quickly picked up the shape of the fruit bowl.

3. Experiment with the following:
After you make a selection in the menu and go to
     a) Select > Modify > Expand
     b) Select > Modify > Contract
     c) Select > Feather
What do these do? Post a fourth image indicating that you know what feathering does.

* Expanding makes the  selected area.

* Contract does the opposite and makes the selected area smaller.

* Feather gives the picture a glowing affect. It blurs everything in the surronding area of the selected space.
